Ideas Innovation Integrity

Breathtaking scenery. Stunning displays of nature. Excellent schools. Tight-knit neighborhoods. Robust city services. South Portland is rapidly becoming the place to call home in Southern Maine. And for good reason. Among our city’s assets: a state-of-the-art community center: newly renovated and rebuilt elementary schools; plans to upgrade our middle and high schools; a top-notch library system. According to a recent survey, South Portlanders gave our city the highest marks for full, customer-oriented service. All this and a patch of ground that rivals paradise.

We do, however, face tough choices as we head into the future. Rising property taxes are forcing some folks out of house and home. Manufacturers and customer service centers are vacating our shores in search of cheaper labor costs oversees, leaving our friends and neighbors stranded without work. Because of state and federal regulations, children now require levels of education and investment that educators didn’t dream of two decades ago — and taxpayers, like you and me, are struggling to cover these costs. State taxes escalate. We pay the bill. These are just some of the problems we face as we move forward. Now, more than ever, we need a local government that responds to the needs of every South Portlander. We need a City Council willing to make those courageous choices that ensure a strong community.

My name is Claude Morgan. I’m the City Councilor in District One. And I believe we can come together with ideas, innovation, and integrity to grow our City responsibly — and responsively.
